Starting in 2022 teachers are getting a bigger tax break from the IRS about deducting classroom supplies.

Starting on tax returns for 2022 (what you’ll file in 2023) educators can deduct up to $300 of their expenses that were not reimbursed. If two teachers are married and file a joint return the limit on deductions rises to $600.

For 2021 the limit was $250 ($500 for teacher couples) so this is a real boost for teachers.

Here are some expenses teachers can deduct:

Professional fees and course fees

Books and supplies

Covid-19 protection items used in classrooms

Computer equipment and software

Other classroom supplies
